Maps and fun classs

Today for the first like 20 mins of class we sat there and did really nothing and watched Robert become our teacher and talk about asking us questions and if we got it wrong we would have to leave. Then Mr. Schick came in and told Robert to sit down then we all talked then he walked down the aisles of desks then ask me if I was playing a game. Also we got 3 maps to cover and find all this stuff like equator and the international date line and all 5 oceans, also we found all seven continents. Then we did all that and listened to Mr. Schick yell people to be quiet and to not talk because they were being annoying and talking to much. then we got quiet and finished most of our maps if we didn't finish then we had to do them for homework luckily I got mine done so I didn't have to do them for homework. Bye until my next human geo class.

Changing Maps

In the video from the west wing they talk about why the United States government should change maps taught in public Schools to the Peters projection map because the Mercator map favorites European socialism and doesn't correctly portray the actual sizes of some of the countries and the actual place of the that country are incorrect. They mention that green land on the Mercator map looks approximately the same size as Africa when in reality Africa is fourteen times larger than Greenland. Also they say that on the map Alaska looks bigger than Mexico which is also incorrect because Mexico is 758,400 mi² And Alaska is 663,300 mi². thats a ninety-five thousand mile difference. Then they say that what if we flip the hemisphere's because we could have those wrong and the lady says you can't do, She says but has no validation of why we can't do that because we could actually have the hemispheres wrong. Until my next human geo class bye.

hg post who's counting

In class we well... We recapped on maps for the people on the soccer team that weren't there Thursday so we looked at a weird thing that looked like a weird contraption that was like one of the first maps then, We looked at a another map that only showed a picture of another old map that only showed from Greece and most of Europe. Then we looked at another map that was a little more detailed but still only showed from Greece to most of Europe. Then we watched this show on Netflix that showed why public schools changed maps being taught in geography. then we were shown that the old map favored Europe and made lots of places seem bigger than they actually were for example green land was half the size of Africa when in reality its actually fourteen times bigger. Until my next human geo class bye.

Maps

Today we learned about old maps versus new maps old maps mostly only showed Europe top of Africa and Greece also the earth to them was flat so. also newer maps portray the whole earth and all the continents and all the countries. Anaximander was the first of the ancient Greeks to draw a map of the known world and as such he is considered to be one of the first cartographers. Hecataeus, Herodotus, Eratosthenes, and Ptolemy were other well-known Greek map makers. Also there are many other writers for the maps but maps were first made they didn't know about North America Or South America which is what excluded America from ancient maps. Until Lewis and Clark expidition till America popped up on maps. Lastly Maps were very important to get around because there was no gps telling people to go all the time. After the test...

The test was boring but I think I aced it. during the test I answered all the questions as best as I could and then did my essay question on socrates trial and death- Socrates trial, Socrates was charged for two crimes corruption of athenian youth and piety, Socrates was sentenced to death by poison hemlock. while he was in jail his friends had the chance to break him out after they talked to the guards but socrates said no he did this to prove his loyalty to athenian democracy. after that I did my short answer and two vocab polis and agora. polis- polls or politics, agora was a main gathering spot and voting spot for my vocab. for my multiple choice questions I answered them as best as I could even though I didn't study till third mod and the period before class but Im still pretty sure I aced it so till my next human geo class see ya.

today in human geo class we looked at a slide show on  a excellence and have a test on Monday and it's on " A Message to Garcia". also its on Socrates. Socrates is a greek philosopher that created socratic method. " A Message to Garcia" is about  a man saying how the world is so lazy and that when you ask anyone to do anything they all ask to many question like why can't you do it your self or was I hired for that he says that the world needs to start working again because no one does anything, also forty million copies of the short book were sold to companies and given to there workers to set the standards for there businesses this was a very. short but informative unit it was pretty cool Ive learned about socrates before but never learned that he created the Socratic method which is used by lots of scientists. thats all for my post until next time see ya.

hg post 5

Socrates lived in Athens loyal to Athens democratic government. visitors all over the world came to Athens to learn odd jobs and your traditional trait jobs. Socrates was charged with two crimes, corruption of Athens youth and impiety ( not believing in the gods of the state ). His defense "its my job to be the gadfly to the lazy, sluggish hours that is Athens. A jury of five hundred male citizens found him guilty 279- 221 Socrates was sentenced to death by poison. He had the opportunity to escape, but he refused, proving his loyalty to athenian democracy. also today we got a new student in our class I guess our class is just the best, and we went through the notes that took us three days took us fifteen minutes today. Also Socrates had all of his closes friends with him when he drank the poison at his death on prison.

HG post 4

today we learned more about democracy and how in 503bc democracy was born. Socrates was a very important person in the making of democracy. also we got vocab words like polis which is greek for a body of citizens. In modern historiography, polis is normally used to indicate the ancient Greek city-states, like Classical Athens and its contemporaries, and thus is often translated as "city-state". also we learned about socrates a greek philosopher who created the scientific method, and we learned he was one of three major greek philosophers of Aristotle, Socrates and plato. Socrates was also know for laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy. He is known for creating Socratic irony and the Socratic method. also Socrates was called the father of western philosophy, also Socrates main contribution to Western philosophy is his method of inquiry that was called after him Socratic method, sometimes also known as elenchus. According to the latter, a statement can be considered true only if it cannot be proved wrong. Until my next human geo class see ya.

Hg Post 3

today in human geo we learned more about "A Message To Garcia" we learned Garcia was a Cuban general. And that lots of people older people think all millenniums are the same meaning we're all lazy people that don't wanna do anything. which I think is highly wrong not all of us depend on everyone else for example I've been working and making money since I was twelve because money plays a big part in life and Ive realized things aren't given to you, you have to work for them. also today we learned that forty million copies of "A Message To Garcia were sold. lots of companies sold them to set there standards. We also learned that Mr. Schick's sister-in-law had one of the American girl doll stories written about her awhile back. Also I learned that Stenographers sit in court rooms with special kinds of type writers and type every word the people speak and there special type writers have buttons that let them type the with one button or other common words. Also that there was a political comic written in 2009 on "A Message to Garcia". And we learned that arete a greek word means the act of living up to ones full potential.

2nd post

A Message to Garcia

"A Message to Garcia" summed up is just telling the public that people are getting too lazy to do anything. Also its telling people when they are told to do something to do it not ask a thousand questions and still not do it. He's not saying that its not bad thing to ask questions but to still do what your task is not complain about it and blow it off and not do it. He also gives an example that socialism is far in the future because we are so dependent on everyone else to do stuff for us rather than us do it ourselves making a lazy and having zero work ethic. following up on my last sentence today people not all but some have no work ethic because they expect their parents or siblings to do it for them because they wanna do something else because its not in there interest. Until my next Human Geo class see ya.

human geo post 1

1st day of school was pretty good had a lot of fun and found most of teachers playful and very fun.
I think one of my most favorite classes will probably be biology had lots of fun with Mr.Low he seems like were gonna have a very fun year. My second favorite class will probably be Math or Human geo haven't decided yet both sound great. Intro to Bible will most likely be pretty fun the teacher is pretty nice but seems very strict or that might just be first impressions. after intro to Bible I had Human Geo seems like Im gonna have a lot of fun in that class, and probably my favorite moment today was when Mr. Schick was seeing if we all had are books because we got easy A's. What I really wonder about is if English class is gonna be fun because last year we had a lot of fun with my old ela teacher Mrs. Rand we had lots of fun reading Romeo and Juliet and other books.
